EU legislation

Flag_smallBIPAVER provides members with a powerful political voice in Brussels on matters relating to the tyre retreading industry, and is regularly consulted and involved in the development of EU legislation. In recent years this has included the development of ECE Regulations 108 and 109 for retreading which are now widely used throughout Europe. Recently the European Commission announced through an international press release the introduction of both regulations 2001/507 and 2001/509 (108 and 109) English version - German version - French version - the new standards for retreading in the European Union.

BIPAVER has strong technical representation in Geneva to ensure the Regulations remain up to date and workable. Tyre noise, wet grip, rolling resistance, tyre width (Kerbing Bands = ASP Additional Sidewall Protection) and waste issues are other items high on the agenda at present.

BIPAVER is also committed to tackling anti-competitive practices against retreaded tyres and is currently involved in a Barrier to Trade action against Brazil. Every opportunity is taken to raise awareness of the environmental advantages of retreading and remove any historical poor perception of the industry. Future plans include promotional campaigns to highlight these advantages and provide evidence of retreadings contribution to tyre recycling, not forgetting their high standards of quality and safety.
